Fiona Shand
Fiona Shand is Associate Professor and Head of Suicide Prevention Research at Black Dog Institute, University of New South Wales. Her experience includes leading, as research director, the LifeSpan suicide prevention trial. LifeSpan is a multi-strategy, regionally led suicide prevention framework. Fiona leads a team of researchers whose work spans large-scale community interventions, digital interventions, youth suicide prevention, health services research, and increasingly, the social determinants of suicide. In addition to research, her contribution to the sector includes her role as a director of Suicide Prevention Australia, committee memberships, advocacy, input to policy, building capacity, and media engagement. She has in-depth knowledge of suicide prevention, research and evaluation, the national reform agenda, the mental health system, and the suicide prevention sector, as well as strong relationships with key stakeholders and a commitment to genuine collaboration and partnership building.
